Memorandum of Understanding Signed

The United Cities and Local Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with International Urban Training Center (IUTC). The International Urban Training Center (IUTC) was established in 2007 and had its official opening on May 3, 2007 in Gangwon Province with the support of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) to build the capacity of cities and towns nationally and in the Asian and Pacific region in support of the goal of sustainable urbanization. The IUTC aims to bridge the knowledge gap between academia, local and central government in the field of sustainable urban development by facilitating communication, professional networking, learning and exchange of information. It will seek to enable dialogues between different stakeholders to create mutual trust and understanding in the realization of sustainable communities at the local, national and international levels.

Regarding to the continuous cooperation in the preparation of the strategies for sustainable urbanization and contributing to the improvement of the Earth and Human settlements environment, both parties agreed to:

  1. Cooperate in the development and operation of training programs, strong network, and other cooperation projects both in the international and local levels for the purpose of promoting sustainable urban development.
  2. Collaborate on developing curriculum and strategies, sharing information and knowledge on sustainable urbanization projects as well in an effort to achieve the sustainable goals.
  3. Make effort to strengthen their mutual networks and to develop effective marketing strategies for successful operation of the training, as well as establishing short and long-term plans.
  4. Assign a liaison officer respectively to maintain a close communication and to promote mutual understanding and further elaboration on potential future cooperation projects as well.
  5. Implement the Memorandum of Understanding
