To promote economic, social, cultural, vocational and environmental development in enhancing the services to the citizens based on good governance principles;

To promote race and gender equality, combating discrimination, promoting decentralized cooperation and international cooperation between local governments and their associations in strong democratic organisation;

To promote twinning and partnership between local governments and peoples.

News from ADEKSI National Congress

 

UCLG ASPAC & ADEKSI NATIONAL CONGRESS

 

UCLG ASPAC sent 4 (four) representatives, led by Secretary General Emeritus Mayor Peter Woods OAM, to attend the National Congress of the Indonesia Municipal Councils Association (ADEKSI) in Palembang, on 25-28 January 2007. Secretary General Peter Woods also presented a paper introducing UCLG ASPAC, its structure, aims and activities in effort of helping to enhance local government performance especially in the region, like creating employment and ending ‘red tape’ practices in local governance and creating new convenient administrative climate instead.

ADEKSI, representing 86 city members covering 2,800 Regional Council members, now led by Mr. Soerya Respationo,  is one of the new members in the family of UCLG organization. From the speeches of the Mayor of Palembang (Mr. Eddy Santana Putra MT) and the Speaker of the Regional Legislative Council of Palembang (Mr. H.M. Yansuri), it was understood that issues discussed by the Congress would include problems confronting the City of Palembang (host City) like the controversial issue on Legislative Council members payment known as PP 37/2007, instructive approach by the Central to the Regions in discharging the state administration, land administration issue, unemployment reduction, poverty alleviation, attracting foreign investors and enhancement of the performance of the Council members.

 

The Congress was well attended with outstanding speakers of Indonesian dignitaries.
