Urban Infrastructure
27-29 October 2009 | Ulsan, Korea
The
Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)
and Ulsan Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea, are pleased to
announce the Second Asia-Pacific Mayors’ Forum on Sustainable
Urban Infrastructure, to be held in Ulsan, on 27-29 October
2009.
The Forum
will bring together city mayors, top government officials and
decision makers and experts to present and discuss the key
issues related to sustainable urban infrastructure development
in Asia and the Pacific. The theme of this year’s Forum is
“Low-Carbon, Green Growth: Harnessing the Potential of Cities”.
Guided by this theme, the Forum will discuss the role of cities
as drivers to achieve low-carbon, green growth, and will review
emerging practices, discuss challenges and identify
opportunities arising from sustainable infrastructure
development. A variety of site visits will provide participants
with practical perspectives on how policies and ideas can be
implemented successfully, drawing from the experiences of Ulsan
City.
The Forum
will also feature a “Bamboo Planting Event”: participating
cities will be asked to donate bamboo trees from their region
and plant them at the Taehwa River Ecological Park during the
Forum. Participants will also have a unique opportunity to visit
the ONGGI EXPO ULSAN KOREA 2009, which will be held throughout
the month of October. For more details regarding the Forum and
its programme, please refer to the enclosed leaflet. Cities that
have innovative practices and success stories that they would
like to share at the Forum are invited to submit a brief
abstract of their proposed presentation.
