Second Asia-Pacific Mayors' Forum on Environmentally Sustainable Urban Infrastructure

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and Ulsan Metropolitan City, Republic of Korea, are pleased to announce the Second Asia-Pacific Mayors’ Forum on Sustainable Urban Infrastructure, to be held in Ulsan, on 27-29 October 2009. 

The Forum will bring together city mayors, top government officials and decision makers and experts to present and discuss the key issues related to sustainable urban infrastructure development in Asia and the Pacific. The theme of this year’s Forum is       “Low-Carbon, Green Growth: Harnessing the Potential of Cities”.  Guided by this theme, the Forum will discuss the role of cities as drivers to achieve low-carbon, green growth, and will review emerging practices, discuss challenges and identify opportunities arising from sustainable infrastructure development. A variety of site visits will provide participants with practical perspectives on how policies and ideas can be implemented successfully, drawing from the experiences of Ulsan City. 

The Forum will also feature a “Bamboo Planting Event”: participating cities will be asked to donate bamboo trees from their region and plant them at the Taehwa River Ecological Park during the Forum. Participants will also have a unique opportunity to visit the ONGGI EXPO ULSAN KOREA 2009, which will be held throughout the month of October. Cities that have innovative practices and success stories that they would like to share at the Forum are invited to submit a brief abstract of their proposed presentation.
